As the manager of a hotel, you want to increase occupancies by 6%......?

It has been determined that the price elasticity of demand for rooms in your hotel is 0.5. This informaion implies?

a) the demand for rooms in your hotel is elastic.

b) if you lower your rates by 12%, then you will increase occupanciesby 6%.

c) if you lower your rates, your total reevenue will rise.

d) there must be many substitutes for your hotel services. As the manager of a hotel, you want to increase occupancies by 6%......?
the answer is bAs the manager of a hotel, you want to increase occupancies by 6%......?
Correct Answer:

B: The price elasticity (of demand) is 0.5, meaning for every $1 increase in price, the quantity demanded will decrease by $0.5, vice versa.

Wrong Answers:

C: Because the demand is fairly unresponsive to price changes, so the increase in revenue caused by the increase in quantity demanded will be less than the decrease in revenue from smaller profit margins; there is a net fall in revenue.

A: Price Elasticity is of Demand (PED) figure determines whether or not a good is (in)elastic in demand.

Relatively Inelastic: 0%26lt;n%26lt;1

Unit Elastic: n = 1

Relatively Elastic: 1%26lt;n%26lt;inf.

Therefore, the demand for hotel rooms is price elastic.

D: For the elasticity of demand to be 0.5, or inelastic, the service must have few close substitutes (eg. other hotels in the area, motels, etc.).

Is it legal to advertise ';Women Can only apply'; for the post of duty manager of a hotel?/?

I am just wondering if there is any kind of legal act or something that tells me about the legality of that statement for an advertisement........... I am not looking for ethics but for legal issues regarding that.Is it legal to advertise ';Women Can only apply'; for the post of duty manager of a hotel?/?
In most cases, this is illegal. Discrimination on the basis of gender is generally illegal, and advertisements that limit applicants to a specific gender are illegal for the same reason. There are certain limited circumstances where this might be legal, e.g., an attendant in a women's restroom. However, this is rare. The advertisement itself is a red flag to the anti-discrimination agencies that you are practicing illegal gender discrimination. Is it legal to advertise ';Women Can only apply'; for the post of duty manager of a hotel?/?
Just post the advert without any restrictions, and hire the best female applicant. Don't mention to any applicant that you are only going to hire a woman. You get what you want, and the government leaves you alone.

Just remember, a fish wouldn't get caught if it kept its mouth shut.
Unless you wish to draw negative attention to yourself or the company, i would not advertise that, it will be a headache for you. Accept all applicants equally and then YOU can select a woman to fill the position without making it public knowledge.
If it's a woman only hotel or country club/spa, or religious then it's legal, if it's a mixed sex hotel it's illegal

Management is a very dificult position because as a manager you have to put feeling aside and leave personal issues aside. A Front Desk Manager can do this because remember there is upper management and he can get fired for doing this. Hotels are very strict and if one of their managers were to do something as you have suggested, he would be terminated. I am in a manament position and I know people who work in the Hotel business, that is the way it is. No worries if this person hates you he will treat you like you are the best customer! Trust me and he does not you can certainly put a complaint to upper management!

Graduate from a hotel and restaurant management courses. Look for courses called hospitality.
Look for hospitality courses. The basic skills you will need include: Math, Sales, Marketing, Scheduling, Hiring and Firing, Inventory, some basic Maintenance if you want to be a manager. Generally, you have to start out as a part-time desk clerk, work your way up to full-time desk clerk or Sr. Guest Services Rep. and then into management. You also need to know how to do group sales, how to do direct bill accounts, some accounting knowledge and most importantly, people skills.

How much do hotel managers make yearly?

Im majoring in hospitality management and im curious to know how much do they make yearly, im hearing different salaries based on experience or hotel.. anyone a hotel manager? How much do hotel managers make yearly?
yes i am a cha certified hotel administrator, like a cpa, issued by Michigan state upon completion of testing and numerous years in the industry.

salary rates are definitely depended upon the size(number of rooms) of a property, full service vs. limited service properties, resort, corp. city, suburban etc property, chain property vs upscale property etc.

if you are in hospitality management course you should know by now that experience is the key, and that starting graduates are much like an apprenticeship, you can expect to work long hours, nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the type of property you will probably make 18-30g's coming out of a course. with 2-5 years salary range will probably be 25-40g's, 5 plus years the range can be 40-100g's again all depending on the type of property. You certainly can't expect running a 65 room hampton is going to pay the same as a 400-500 room hilton, etc.

this is a very tough demanding career field, it is exciting and challenging. everyday is something new, and the rewards are not necessarily monetary, but the satisfaction of doing something bigger and better than anyone else. Having loyal customers who return time and time again because of the hospitality you offer. I have had the satisfaction of having what i consider the best f%26amp;b crew in the world, turn over of less than 5% over a 5 year period, staff of over 70, unheard of in the industry, running properties with 90-95% occupancy rates, and best of all 20 years ago i married my agm after she had worked for me for 4 years. lol, so the industry does offer some great benefits, gl to uHow much do hotel managers make yearly?
The best way to get an idea about this market is to look at the jobs in the trade magazines. They often list salaries, which vary wildly according to the location/size/prestige of the hotel.

Well, the five star hotels and up (those are the employers that matter) insist on atleast an undergraduate degree in Hotel/Hospitality Management. You would be usually be starting a Management Trainee, but in a few years you can become Manager of a specific sub-department, say Food %26amp; Beverages, Housekeeping, Front Office, Restaurant, Kitchen, etc. As you gain in experience and maturity, you ll be promoted to Assistant Hotel Manager and eventually Hotel Manager. The growth pattern does not stop there. If you go back to school and get an MBA, you can even make Vice-President of the hotel chain that you re working for.

What DOES a HOTEL manager do?

The number one job a hotel manager has is to keep their establishments operating efficiently and profitably. In a small hotel, the manager may overlook all aspects of managing the hotel. In many hotels, the general manager also is the resident manager.

Daily operations include housekeeping, coordinating reservations %26amp; room assignments, convention services, restaurant services, laundry services etc.

For big hotels, the manager does:

    1) administrative function, like managing personnel - - scheduling their assignments for the day, disciplining them, etc.

    2) supervises the specialty staff, like the event coordinators, the kitchen staff, the garden employees, room cleaners, porters, etc.

    3) meets VIP guests, welcome them and sometimes, accompany them to their suites.

For small hotels, the manager, aside from all those above, also:

Well he should not acknowledge any wrong doing until his investigation is over. Even then, he'll be careful about what he acknowledges because of the fear of a lawsuit. Most likely this hotel and it's staff has been reported before and so ';corporate'; is beginning to pay attention.

  • I have been given the task by my manager to improve the Concierge department in our hotel? Heeelp?

I am currently working as a receptionist in a hotel, I have been asked by my manager to have a look into the general procedures and services that out concierge department are currently offering. And for me to try and improve the department. I need some suggestions as too what you think gives the wow factor when staying at a hotel, and how a concierge can deliver you the service all you lovely people require! ThanksI have been given the task by my manager to improve the Concierge department in our hotel? Heeelp?
I am a business traveler and have high hotel points with several hotel chains (gold/platinum level). A couple of months ago, I had a reservation with a hotel that I am platinum member of the hotel's point program. The concierge called me a week or so before I our reservation and asked me if there was anything I needed for our stay. In all my years of travel, I had never gotten a call from the hotel like this before. I didn't need anything but it gave me a very positive image of the hotel before I even got there and I made a point of introducing myself to the conceirge during my trip and thanking him for his pre-call.

One thing I really dislike from a concierge is when they can't answer basic questions about the neighborhood/city. When I was in NYC at a MAJOR hotel near Central Park, I asked the concierge for a real athentic Italian restuarant in Little Italy. I even included ';like something from the Sapronos';. He didn't really refer me anywhere, his answer was something like ';there's lot of Italian restaurants around... there's blah, blah, blah two blocks up and blah, blah around the corner.'; I didn't think my question was unique and yet he didn't provide any answer.I have been given the task by my manager to improve the Concierge department in our hotel? Heeelp?
When i'm staying at hotels, what I need usually are train times and bus times from this station to that. It's very useful if you need to be somewhere at a certain time and you don't have much clue as to how to get there and how many mins/hrs it'll take. Maybe a hotels own traveling service i.e. company taxis

So what are the college requirements to be a hotel manager? and the yearly pay?

Well, to get the most pay at the top hotels, you probably need a degree in Management or a degree in a type of program like ';Parks, Recreation %26amp; Tourism Management'; with business management as your minor.

The salary depends on the company you work for and what kind of hotel you're talking about--there's a big difference between Hampton Inn and the W Hotels Group, for instance. You can look it up in the OOH, link below.

Which is the best place for an eager trained hotel manager Nicaragua,Puerto Rico,San Diego, Vancouver,Ireland?

I have recently graduated from GMU with a graduate degree in international management with undergrad degrees in international studies and hospitality and tourism management. I'm fluent in spanish and would like to experience the world. I currently live in Reston, Va, which is a suburb of Washington, D.C. Currently the average cost of a fairly nice apartment runs around $729,900 and I'm wondering if people who live in either Nicaragua, Ireland(especially Galway), Vancouver or St.John's Canada or Puerto Rico or San Diego could let me know of which place I may find the most job opprotunities and find an affordable place to live. Thank you for all your help!Which is the best place for an eager trained hotel manager Nicaragua,Puerto Rico,San Diego, Vancouver,Ireland?
Well, although Vancouver is gorgeous, the cost of housing there is a bit more expensive. St. John's in Newfoundland is actually a place I have been looking at relocating to and from what I see, Newfoundland is amazing. I just went to the Hilton Hotel, because the Human Resource manager said that he would assist me in getting a?

He said that they were not hiring at the moment because the business was slow, and he talked about a computer program that they use, and he said that i could do an internship to learn the program and be certified and then i could get a job at any Hilton after that. The program takes about 90 days to be certified and it will be an internship with no pay i assume. Do you think its worth it?I just went to the Hilton Hotel, because the Human Resource manager said that he would assist me in getting a?
    Hi,

If you really want to work for Hilton Hotels, I think it's worth it.

If this computer system is similar to software that all hotels and even other businesses use, then that's even better, because you know how to use software that's apparently very useful for that industry and maybe other industries.

In short, Yes, i think it's worth it. You will :

    1. Learn a new skill

    2. Get work experience in general

    3. You will meet business contacts who can help you get a job in the future. This might be the most important aspect of all.

It it typical for a hotel manager?

to get fired because he slept with a guest? even if it was consentual sex? my freind manages a holiday inn and he had to kick a guest out because she was causing problems. the thing is, he also had sex with her and now she is threatening his job. anyone know?It it typical for a hotel manager?
Your friend is a fool and deserves to be fired. It it typical for a hotel manager?
    Hi

Look into the company policy %26amp; procedures! However this behaviour shouldn't happen however it was consentual it gives a poor image for the organisation %26amp; may not be in line with the company mission %26amp; values.... Also you never mentioned whether this happend throughout working hours etc

Don't mix business with pleasure I say! However much fun it's been.... Also look at the contract of employment it may state things regarding employment criteria etc

She obviously not a very nice person!! If she is going to follow through with treat I would suggest he gets to his employers first however humliating it may be!!!!!!!!

    Good Luck
I don't know if this is typical but having sex with those whom you have a monetary and/or business relationship is generally frowned upon.

What is the difference between a rooms sales manager and catering manager at a hotel?

The room sales manager would likely be responsible for securing sales of rooms in the property associated with events, normal reservations, etc. They would potentially be responsible for negotiating special rates with corporations, organizations, etc. to encourage on-going occupancy.

A catering manager is likely responsible for meeting the food/beverage needs of schedule events. They would manage the in-house kitchen, work with outside vendors, schedule catering staff, etc.

Obviously his wife.In hotel chains who is tipically above the restaurant manager?
The Restaurant Manager probably reports to a Food and Beverage Director. However, in many cases the Food and Beverage Director is not as knowledgeable as the Restaurant Manager and The Chef is more knowledgeable than both of them put together.

Hi, i need list of manager's duties and responsibilities at the hotel, but it needs to sound proffsional so if u can help me, pleasee do..... thank youWhat are Hotel manager's duties?
Check out this website. Remember that the size of the hotel will make a difference too. Small hotels with less staff might expect a manager to man the desk or phones, or even fill in for an absent bellhop or chamber maid, while that would not be the case at a large hotel..

Can being a hotel manager in pto vallarta pay good?

depends on how much you are looking for. for the area yes but do not expect to get the equivlant of american pay. However, consider where you are living and your pay will put in a good position in that area. I would do it.

What would you do if you're a hotel manager and someone complains about their food in the having a cockroach

    note

first i would ask the servers if the customers had been acting at all suspicious before they made the complaint.

usually they are acting peculiar if it is a trick

then i would talk to them and suggest that it was highly unlikely

but in the end i would comp their meal if it seemed legitimate

-What would you do if you're a hotel manager and someone complains about their food in the having a cockroach
immediately show the greatest concern for the well-being of the customer, apologize profusely, tell them that you most assuredly will discuss the lack of cleanliness of the kitchen, and offer them a complimentary dinner, or complimentary night's stay, or something else to make them feel less upset about the bug.

The world is full of bugs and we probably eat more roaches than we even know about, but it more than likely distressed this person quite a bit.. (I'd be a bit upset).

Depending on their reaction, several different scenarios may become available to you as a manager.

Good luck! And get on the butts of your chef and his staff to do a better job cleaning up.What would you do if you're a hotel manager and someone complains about their food in the having a cockroach
The customer would have reported it 1st to the waiter .

The waiter should have handled that as soon as it was reported .

Did you ask the waiter ?

When in this scenario does it come to you ?

All depends on the sequence of events %26amp; time .

    Additionaly

Does your kitchen have cockroach issues ?

Have you ever done a nite walk through ?

    { where you enter after lites out and see if any scamper when you hit the lites ? }

Commercial food places are notorious for roaches .

If you have full pest control services , you might still have a couple

But apologize and offer to replace the meal .

Really NOT enough relevant details for a good answer ,

Too Many Variables left out .

( and scammers do bring bugs to get out of paying the bills )

    Sorry

    %26gt;
The meal should be on the house, and you should make a very big apology, and if you sense the customer is still angry, throw in some more free stuff (free night, free meal at another time - although they may never want to come back), etc.

And then hire an exterminator ASAP!
Well....hoefully you would see the cockroach yourself, but even if you don't....you appologize profusely and give them their entire stay for free. Don't forget to cal an exterminator...immediately.
If they can produce a cockroach in the food, refund their food money and give them a discount for the night.
I would pay them not to tell anyone, close the hotel, and hire a whole bunch of exterminators... or I would laugh and say they were crazy!!!
    I would be very embarresed!
well unless if they manage the hotels cafeteria then that's not the managers problem.
The right thing to do here is to not charge them for it.
    Call my hotel's attorney.
See if cockroach was on the menu

    I'm short,but i want to be a hotel manager,is that ok?

i'm short ,but my dream is being a successful hotel manager.do u know this job has a limitaton about height?I'm short, but i want to be a hotel manager,is that ok?
According to federal law, a hotel should not discriminate against you on the basis of height just as long as you can perform the job with reasonable accommodation. A hotel manager is not the type of job that would require great height.

If someone tells you that you can't be hired because of height for this job, then they're breaking a federal law by discriminating.I'm short, but i want to be a hotel manager,is that ok?
It would be extremely difficult for an employer to make a case for a height requirement in that career field. Go for it!

  • What kind of schooling needed to be a manager of a hotel ?

like a 5 star one? What kind of schooling needed to be a manager of a hotel ?
Theres a hotel management degree. Also business degree, specializing in hotel managementWhat kind of schooling needed to be a manager of a hotel ?
At least a BA in Hotel Management (Yes, they have it) or Business.
Most schools, even small ones, have a management degree called ';Resort %26amp; Hospitality Management'; or some similar name. With this degree, you take lots of marketing and management classes like other business degrees, but you also take specialized hotel managment and service management classes. It's a 4-year bachelor's degree at the university I attend.

I don't think something like this would be required at every 5-star hotel, but it would certainly give you a better chance at getting the job. Some other careers might be just a straight management or business administration degree, or maybe a communication degree.

3 men each need a hotel room. They each ask the hotel manager for a room.?

The manager says that it would be $10 each. They give the manager $30. Later on the manager realizes he made a mistake. It would be $25 instead of $30. The manager tells the bell boy to go up and give the men back $5. Not being alble to split the $5 evenly the bell boy gives the men $3, $1 each. He decides to keep the other $2. Where is the other dollar?3 men each need a hotel room. They each ask the hotel manager for a room.?
It's not a valid question. No money is missing.

    The hotel has $25.00.

    The men each have $1.00.

    The bellboy has $2.00.

It all adds up to $30.00.

Yes, each of the men paid $9.00 for his room. That's $27.00.

But the hotel only has $25 of it. The bellboy has the other two. And of course, the men, together, have $3.00. Again, it all adds up to $30.00.

The problem with this question is that it's asking you to add the wrong things.3 men each need a hotel room. They each ask the hotel manager for a room.?
There is no money left. Or am I retarded!?
This is a common misconception: each man ended up giving 9 dollars, and the bellhop kept 2, so that makes 29: where's the other dollar? But actually that addition is incorrect. Each man gave 9 dollars, which adds up to 27, and the bellhop pocketed the two dollars that rightfully should have gone to the MEN (which would make their contribution 25 dollars), which means the men paid two dollars extra. You SUBTRACT the 2 dollars from the 27 the men paid (because the bellhop actually cheated them; he did not ';pay part of their fare';).
Why did the chicken cross the road? Well, the love of his life is now the new emblem on a brand new white Caddy. So, he crossed the road to see if he could get some thigh. Then he himself becomes the next emblem of a big mac. That's why McDonalds started selling chicken sandwiches.

Where's the beef? Still in the field grazing. This doesn't make any sense??? who cares.
There is no money missing. Each of the men paid $10 to start with for their room. However this really doesnt matter. The problem at hand is that he was told to return 5 dollars to the men. He gave each of them one dollar and kept the other two. this adds up to the five he was told to give back, which means there is no money missing.
    Initially ,each person(3) gave $10(total=$30)

when Manager returned them $5(let suppose they got it).

    then per head rents=$(25/3)----------------case 1.

but they got only $1 by beell boy .

then total rent per head=$9($10-$1)------------case 2.

diff. between these cases=$9-$(25/3)=$(2/3).this amount which has not been got by each man.

so tatal amount not got =$(2/3)*3=$2

which is kept by bell boy....

    plz reply me at (kapil1513@yahoo.com)

    thankx....Friend.
3 for the men + 2 for him =5 there is none.
Ah, yes. This is known as the classic ';missing dollar paradox.'; This is a classic case of misdirection and confusion. Rather than give the complete answer here, I refer you to the solution (see the source below):
Your trying to be tricky, by saying that the men each paid 11 dollars, the ten up front plus one. your just being a wordsmith, as my grandpappy calls it.

each man still paid ten dollars. 3*10 = 30

    bell boy keeps two 30-2 = 28

    each guy gets a buck = 28-3 = 25

    every dollar is accounted for.
    what other dollar. 25+3+2=30
In the Soda Machine.....No it's still there, but the question is meant to confuse you.
well if they bell boy gave each man $1 (that would equal $3) and he kept the other $2 (that would equal $5) There isnt anymore money to be lost. 3+2=5

What are the duties and responsibilities of a Function Manager in a resort hotel?

He has many, but mosly he must make sure everything runs smoothly at the hotel.

If you are a hotel manager can you answer these questions for me?

    1. What are their greatest challenges regarding employees?

    2. How does their industry prepare them for management duties (mentoriing, formal training programs, apprenticeship)?

    3. What advice would they offer to potential managers in the industry?

and if you would be so kind i need ur name (first name works fine but if you don mind giving your last name itd be better), position, and what hotel you work at thxxIf you are a hotel manager can you answer these questions for me?
    1. What are their greatest challenges regarding employees? Hiring and retaining good employees. There is always lots of turnover in the hospitality business. If you have a great employee, they will either move to a bigger hotel or a bigger city where they can earn more money. If they aren't that aggressive, they will stay. It's a fine balance.

    2. How does their industry prepare them for management duties (mentoriing, formal training programs, apprenticeship)? You would need a degree in Hospitality from a university and then experience as a F%26amp;B (food and beverage) manager, Catering Manager, Sales Manager, or even Assistant General Manager. Hotels don't just hire people out of college to run the company. You would need to work your way up through the ranks.

    3. What advice would they offer to potential managers in the industry? Plan to move every 3 years or so to a new city, know that working in the hospitality industry is not a 8-5 Monday thru Friday job. When you work somewhere that doesn't have a lock on the front door, you will be working long hours. Just know that going in. It's a great industry but it's not for the clockwatcher or the lazy.

Hotel: Is it commonplace for a Front Desk Manager to give a discounted 3 nite stay?

What about a free 3 nite stay?

I flirted w/a Desk Manager and I think he gave me either a free stay or a 10/day discount. I changed my mind on the guy right after that stay %26amp; the guy was pissed! So is giving a discounted stay or free stay commonplace that he would get SO mad?Hotel: Is it commonplace for a Front Desk Manager to give a discounted 3 nite stay?
When I was a front desk manager it was quite common to give discounts on room rates. He would have known what the availability was like.

Hate to burst your bubble but any discount would be determined by the vacancy level at that particular time. It has nothing to do with you flirting.

As for him getting pissed that is just unprofessional.Hotel: Is it commonplace for a Front Desk Manager to give a discounted 3 nite stay?
I work at a 4 star resort in Hunter Wine Country (NSW, Australia) %26amp; we are able to discount at our discretion.

Our normal price is really only set in concrete for busy periods %26amp; special event weekends so if you are looking to travel I reccommend waiting until off season or going mid week to get really great discounts.

If we are a bit slow we will even throw in free meals or extra complimentary nights to get people to stay with us.
Discounts/ free nights are usually given when occupancy are low and it is up to the desk manager/shift manager to use them. They are told that if a potential customer is considering other hotels, it would better to rent the room at a discount than for it remain empty and generate no revenues.
tipping the desk guy is the best way to get good deals at hotels, give the person booking your room a $20 tip and usually youll get a free upgrade or a discount
It depends on the hotel and there occupancy rate for the evening. I often get upgrades and I don't have to flirt.

And if he loves you so much and wants to start this family w/ do you care how much you will be making as a hotel manager? How can i become a hotel manager? how much do they earn?
There are a couple ways to go about it.

    - One way is to get in the business on the entry level. Work the front-desk at a hotel. Work really hard, be reliable and learn the business. While you do that, take college business courses, and yes a two year diploma is enough. Likely you will make money, have fun and within a couple years you should be an assistant manager or general manager if you are smart and work hard. Your languages will help.

    - Another way is to do a four year commerce degree. Then apply from the outside. You might start as a manager right away, but this is tougher school and more expensive.

    - As a general rule it's not a really high paying career. It can be fun and rewarding on other levels. You might get to manage all over the world - depending on the management company that hires you. And some fancy hotels do pay well. In Canada, we make about $30,000 when we start and get raises to the $50,000 range. Not rich but not bad either - good luck!

you should earn about 10 dollars an hour, remember that you are a hired servant to the hotel elite owners, you must work to the best of your ability to strengthen your company, if you are a manager make sure to increase the productivity of people under you, the hotel industy is powerful
    I agree with Lady Mendoza!

Does a lodging manager actually own the hotel?

if not, what is the name of the career where you actually own the hotel?Does a lodging manager actually own the hotel?
No the managers does not own the property. The owner is generally known as a ';businessman';. If it is a franchise, sometimes as a ';franchisee';.

  • How hard would it be for me to work as a hotel manager in europe?

im an american citizen, i dont have any relatives who are eu citizens....

i want to move to europe to work as a hotel manager..preferably italy, spain, germany, or france.....i am going to get my bachelors degree in hotel management....

besides needing to speak the language....what else do i need to do? i mean, is it hard to move to europe if you are an american citizen and don't have an EU citizenship?

    i know you can get sponsored by a company and they will get you a visa or w/e but...i looked on the ritz-carlton website and it said ';eu citizens only';

so i dont know what to doHow hard would it be for me to work as a hotel manager in europe?
Get a job with a major international chain in the US.

    Work your way up.

If you are any good, opportunities will open up in their overseas hotels.

Moving over there with with no immigration papers plus no language skills will NOT work.

Why would they hire an ';illegal'; who can't speak the language?

Can I sue the hotel manager for watching me and my boyfriend have sex through a small opening in the curtains?

Last Sunday my boyfriend and I decided to have a romantic evening at hotel. When I arrived I checked in alone and proceeded to my ground floor room. Upon entering the room I noticed that the window was wide open although it was pretty chilly and windy. I closed it and thought nothing more of it as I pulled the curtains closed. Later that evening as we were being intimate, I glanced at the window and noticed that although I had pulled them closed there was a small open space where they overlapped. I then noticed what at first appeared to be a shadow but was really a man wearing a dark shirt and tan pants. I told my boyfriend who immediatly jumped out of bed and pulled the curtain back to see a dark haired man with dark shirt and tan pants. When we went to the front desk to talk to the manager it was the same guy. I asked for a refund and he refused so we called the cops. The cops informed me that there is no peeping tom ordinance in our town. I got my money back but can I still sue?Can I sue the hotel manager for watching me and my boyfriend have sex through a small opening in the curtains?
Since there's no ordinance prohibiting this in your town, unfortunately, you probably can't take him to court unless you have something he can be charged with. The only thing I can think of that you might be able to charge him with is indecent exposure - IF his pants were unzipped and he was touching himself. The best thing to do would be to call a lawyer who offers free initial consultations. Then they can tell you what your options are, if any.

Was this hotel privately owned by the man in question? If not, I would definitely contact a higher-up, inform them of the incident, and demand they take action against him so that he doesn't invade anyone else's privacy. Can I sue the hotel manager for watching me and my boyfriend have sex through a small opening in the curtains?
No, Because if there is a no peeping tom ordinance there is no grounds for a law suit. It is your responsibility to make sure that there is no way to be seen. It is not against to law obviously in your town for him to be looking through the window.
sounds a bit far fetched to me why would he do this ?i think your just trying to make a quick buck.
Make sure he didn't tape you two or before you know it, I could see you two all over the internet.
I guess you can. I guess the manager must have been bored or desperate.
Be careful, he might say you left the curtain open on purpose, sounds crazy but he will try any excuse.
im pretty sure you shoule be able to... but dont take my word for it... sorry for your misfortune

What would a Indian General Manager in a Hotel Earn in Bahrain ?

from 5 star hotel INR 200,000 a month

Do you need a degree to eventually become the manager of a 5 star hotel?

I mean a degree in hospitality? I'll have a degree but it will be in broadcasting, telecommunications and mass media. i want to have a career that involves travel, leisure, people and different cultures. do i need a degree to do that?Do you need a degree to eventually become the manager of a 5 star hotel?
They (as in some-places) actually have a hotel management degree... So I think that you MIGHT be able to work your way up to it, but by the time you get there some ';just out of college'; child (child in your eyes, lol) will get the job before you do..

If a hotel manager accuses me of smoking in a non smoking room with no proof, can I win a lawsuit?

yes, if you can substantiate your inocence.Example you have a witness to prove that you have a friend or someone who can testfy that you were at a different place and time when your manager saw you. I recommend, you sue him for 5 million dollars, for you to be in the front page.If a hotel manager accuses me of smoking in a non smoking room with no proof, can I win a lawsuit?
No.If a hotel manager accuses me of smoking in a non smoking room with no proof, can I win a lawsuit?
No. You did it. Now get over it.
It would be a useless case. Even a lawyer wouldn't take that case.
No, as it is your word against theirs and unless there has been a pattern of ';false reporting'; by the manager of the hotel in the past, why would there be any reason for them to lie about the situation?

Even if you get a good private investigator, your have not shown any real damages other than being charged a higher rate for the room for smoking and your fees willl be higher than what you would ever be entitled to receive (the difference between what can be charged for a room that allows smoking and one that does not, or any additional fees that you are charged if the entire establishment is non-smoking). Unless there has been a demonstrated pattern, there is no reason for a hotel manager to lie against you as opposed to other tenants.

Either suck it up and move on, or be prepared to spend a vast amount of money for a Small Claims Court suit that you have to prove by the preponderance of the evidence of ANY state you reside in.

  • How much does a front desk manager ( of a big hotel ) or general manager of a small hotel make starting out?

I'm about to graduate in May and the only related experience is being a front desk clerk ( a year's worth - cross trained in reservations and as a pbx operator). Right now I'm a packaging operator for Con Agra foods ( been there 5 years now)How much does a front desk manager ( of a big hotel ) or general manager of a small hotel make starting out?
In a big hotel, coming from your experience you would most likely start out as a Front Desk Supervisor and then move up to a Front Desk Manager...depending on what hotel chain, how luxurious, what state, the starting rate will vary, and experience plays a big deal in that and also does education, depending on what your major was and what your degree is in...big luxurious hotel front desk supervisor - probably around 11-12 an hour. Now a GM position of a smaller hotel you could make around 24k a year most likely with living quarters provided....it depends again on everything else...How much does a front desk manager ( of a big hotel ) or general manager of a small hotel make starting out?

What type of Degree or certificates is needed to become a retail, hotel, or Branch manager?

You do not need a degree or certificate to become a manager. Although, a degree or certificate in management is an asset. In fact, having a business management degree does not guarantee you will become a manager. You have to have leadership skills, able to handle people, and most importantly, know about the business operation in your field.

Many retail, hotel, as well as bank managers started in a junior position and work their way up to management position. So if you want to be a manager, what you need to do is to learn as much as you can in you chosen field and get as much as experience you can.

How does a hotel manager use math in his/her work enviornment?

im doing a math project and we had to pick a career and we picked hotel manager. how do they use math??? i need a really good explanation

Thanks! (A LOT!)How does a hotel manager use math in his/her work enviornment?
if they are managing the hotel, then they would need to understand their guest/room ratios, their profitability, their loss, how to charge their customers and make change. they would need to understand salaries and wages and taxes for employment and payroll.

they need to understand their pricing and if they run a special how much can they lower the price before it's a loss more than they can afford.

there's a lot of math in almost every job in the business world. that's a fact!

Is it easy to become a hotel manager?

Do they par a lot?? average??

what are other careers that include traveling?? like you know, if you work for a chain you can get transfer?? what are some good hotels for?? how could you start your hotel career??Is it easy to become a hotel manager?
Being a hotel manager isn't an entry-level job, so you usually have to work your way up to it. Unfortunately, the hospitality industry is notorious for paying very little and requiring very long hours. Hotel managers almost never travel, although they may move from one hotel to another, but that is probably more because they are told to move somewhere else than that they choose to do so.

There are degrees in hospitality, but I would guess that as many hotel managers have worked their way through the ranks as have degrees in the field. Is it easy to become a hotel manager?
Not always easy. You may want to consider a two or four year degree in management or tourism management. Check out the OOH (google OOH) if you want to find out more about hotel careers and more travel-minded careers. (You might not suspect this, but hotel managers don't travel much!)

Consider owning a hotel-franchise (I believe there are some out there) or starting a bed and breakfast/boutique hotel.

    Good luck and best wishes!

None of the hotels in Canada (or pretty much around the world) solicit people for job openings by sending out spam emails.

If you got an email about a job in Canadian hotels, just pitch it out. You will lose any money you send to them.

Go to the Omni Hotels website and look in their careers section to see if you can apply to work for them.

What the spammers are doing is called ';phishing';. They are pretending to be someone from the Omni Hotel and offering a job. You can often tell by the email address or website URL that they are linking you to. The Omni Hotels have their own email address which would end in ';omnihotels.com'; and should never look like ';omnihotels.yahoo.com';.

If you see that type of email address, complain to the email provider that someone is using that account for spam or illegal activities. Is miss rose grand christana is manager of hotel omni canada?

  • Can i become a Front desk manager without hotel management education?

Can i become a Front desk manager without hotel management educationCan i become a Front desk manager without hotel management education?
At most properties, the Guest Services Manager (aka Front Desk Manager) is an experienced employee who probably does not have a 4-year degree but may. It's not required for the position at most properties but may be at the largest/premiere properties.

Experience on the desk and then as an Asst GS Mngr. will be required for advancement. It's usually 2-5 years experience as the preferred range.

Related, but not the same, is the Front Office Manager who also often comes from front desk staff but more often has a 4-year degree because of the financial/accounting nature of that position.

People with a bachelor's degree in hotel management often start as asst general manager (AGM) and work upward from there. Some start in the administrative roles such as group sales, revenue, or front office manager.

Those with a bachelor's degree in other fields can often advance through the ranks much faster than those with only experience. Experience on the front desk is helpful and often essential in those cases.

After becoming General Manager of a hotel, can you eventually own it?

or become higher up in the hotel company? like CEO?

I want to own a hotel of my own one day, a nice luxurious one, but it's very expensive to build one...

so can i work my way up the ladder at a nice hotel in vegas and one day own it?

thanks. After becoming General Manager of a hotel, can you eventually own it?
    YES

it is possible to move up in a company or to become an owner. it depends on your abilities as well as timing and the correct set of circumstances.

almost all CEOs, CFOs and COOs of food service and hospitality corporations started in the business usually as an hourly employee who enjoyed the work saw a future, continued their education and worked extremely hard.

Good LuckAfter becoming General Manager of a hotel, can you eventually own it?
Well most hotels are owned by different company share holders, so you could definitely become the CEO and though out time buy more stocks and bonds and become a bigger share holder of the hotel.

But for most hotels there is only a certain amount of shares for employees and the rest is split between family's, person who had the idea and company that helped pay for it.

Your best bet would be to work i one and then go on a venue with another person who has the money and would share a bigger share with you because the believe in you and the way you have made the other hotel become successful.

    good luck to you
Umm, from what I saw, looking it up on Yahoo and things, it seems that if you are a manager you could get promoted by the guys higher up and if they really like you, and they retired, that spot will be open...You may just get lucky. Now I am not positive about that...But, from what I've seen, that seems like how it works...
In order to own it I think that you would need to buy it. So if you where working their and it came up for sale and you had the money to buy it. Then you could buy it.
Most/ if not all hotels in vegas are owned by corporations. So I guess if you like to own one of them, you'd need to become a majority shareholder.
you can own ANYTHING with enough money.
You have to be from some sort of Arabian or Pakistan country to own a hotel.

Maybe take some hospitality/hotel management courses at the local college. Until you get pretty high up on the ladder, hotel managers don't make a whole lot of $$.
How do you expect to run a hotel if you've never worked at one? Sure, you could take your management experience and manage staff; but I would think you'd want to at least WORK at one for awhile, to figure out if that's what you really want. It's harder than it looks!
Haba! no experience and you want to work in an hotel! You will be captured by prostitutes!
You know nothing about hotel management but want to go into that?

I would keep you out of any hotel I own!

Buy one, then you can mismanage it any which way you want.
You need to have experience in the hotel field, especially other managment roles within hospitality in order to manage a hotel. There is alot more involved than just booking reservations and cleaning rooms.

Try going for a lower-level management position, like banquets, desk supervisor, etc. and work your way up.
It is better to have experience but to be a manager you need one.

What classes do you have to take in college to work at a hotel and someday become manager?

or assistant manager? What classes do you have to take in college to work at a hotel and someday become manager?
Many community colleges offer Hospitality %26amp; Restaurant Management or Tourism Hotel Management AA and cerfiticate programs that tranfer to State Universities. They are more specialized for that particular profession than the general Business Management Degree. Good luck! What classes do you have to take in college to work at a hotel and someday become manager?
see the counseling office for starters. also contact a place where a future job may interest you. also go to a library or online and lookup needed qualifications for such a job as well.
there are actual collages that provide hospitality training, but also many high school provide management classes. in terms of collage you going to need to take management classes and HR classes as well.

    Good Luck
Some colleges actually provide a hospitality management degree, which is exactly what you would need to get for this type of work. However, any business management degree will also cover the majority of the same coursework. Make sure that you take as many finance, accounting, management, advertising, and real estate classes as you can since this will make up the bulk of your need.
Some schools have courses in hotel management. I believe classes in either: human resources and/or business management will do. One way to find out for sure is to contact a hotel and ask.

    Good luck!

If you are currently working in a hotel, stay there. For example:

    A. No college-- It takes 10 years to make manager. During those years you make(as a total)$250,000; starting at around $20,000/yr and gradually making more each year. You are gaining experience and building trust within the corporation.

You become a manager and now make $50,000+ each year.

    B. College-- You can't work full-time while going to school, so you never excel in the corporation. You pay out thousands of

dollars each semester to learn general business aspects that could have been explained on a specific level by your current employer and better prepared you for your desired position.

You finally get done with college, you have major debt and you still have to start from the beginning to gain that all-important

EXPERIENCE. It still takes several years to make manager,

all of which you spend all your money on student loans.

IF you're going into a job market that doesn't require a degree, don't bother. I make nearly $100,000/yr with training I received in the military. I could be doing the same job with a

college degree; true enough. But I would have hundreds of

thousands of debt instead of owning a house, 2 cars, and

having a very secure financial situation.
You don't necessarily have to have a degree to be in hotel management, although it will be helpful. I would recommend majoring in business. You can pick up the customer service skills along the way.

I worked my way up in several hotels...I started as a concierge and worked as a reservations mgr, front office mgr, %26amp; housekeeping manager (with no degree). The next step was Room Division Mgr, then Asst. GM. I decided to make a career change though %26amp; went to school for my BA %26amp; switched to HR.
