BS or Masteral Degree in either Tourism, Business Management/BA, HRM/HRA, Marketing AND at least 4-5 years experience as a manager in a hotel or similar industry or an equivalent years of experience in a related job and industry.





But really, it varies from one hotel to another but for a big chain like Marriott, there's a high requirement.What skills and education might be required for the position of hotel general manager with a major hotel chain
Graduate with a business degree.





Graduate from a hotel and restaurant management courses. Look for courses called hospitality.
Look for hospitality courses. The basic skills you will need include: Math, Sales, Marketing, Scheduling, Hiring and Firing, Inventory, some basic Maintenance if you want to be a manager. Generally, you have to start out as a part-time desk clerk, work your way up to full-time desk clerk or Sr. Guest Services Rep. and then into management. You also need to know how to do group sales, how to do direct bill accounts, some accounting knowledge and most importantly, people skills.
