As a sales and marketing manager you are going to need to generate business in various ways.
This means you will need to know your local businesses first as well as search companies that you know like to travel to your area and do conferences there and get them to do it at your hotel. I would suggest you work in a propery that will attract people.
The cons of this is the bottom line is the pressure will be on you and unless you have a good networking system it is going to be very difcult and if you do not produce sales then your job will be in jeapordy.
As far as traveling it should normally be locally unless you think you can brink in some big accounts from out of State.
