What DOES a HOTEL manager do?

The number one job a hotel manager has is to keep their establishments operating efficiently and profitably. In a small hotel, the manager may overlook all aspects of managing the hotel. In many hotels, the general manager also is the resident manager.

Daily operations include housekeeping, coordinating reservations %26amp; room assignments, convention services, restaurant services, laundry services etc.

What DOES a HOTEL manager do?
For big hotels, the manager does:

1) administrative function, like managing personnel - - scheduling their assignments for the day, disciplining them, etc.

2) supervises the specialty staff, like the event coordinators, the kitchen staff, the garden employees, room cleaners, porters, etc.

3) meets VIP guests, welcome them and sometimes, accompany them to their suites.

For small hotels, the manager, aside from all those above, also:

1) has planning functions, like budgeting for next year's activities, procurement of capital goods/equipment. Practically, he substitutes for the owners in making decisions, delegated to him by the owner. What DOES a HOTEL manager do?
